On this series of posts I am identifying social media mistakes business owners make and offering a recommended fix.
Mistake - You think one is done.
You write a blog post and you have it auto-posted to your social media. You launch a new product so you announce it at your networking events. You are interviewed on a podcast and you share it on Facebook. So what do you do next?
“What do you mean, Susanne? I already shared it. I did all I need to do with it.”
Really? How many people do you think know about it? The 20 social media followers that were logged in when your post went out? The 50 people who heard about it at a networking event? What about me? I do not even know about you yet. I just started following you on Twitter today so I do not know about that video you posted on YouTube last year that speaks to my problem and persuades me to use your product or services.
When you have events or sales, one post is not going to get people to come. Most of your followers will not even see that post or even notice it as they are scrolling their feeds. Write different hooks and post it daily if necessary.
If you have good, timeless content, make a schedule to keep reposting it. This makes it possible for new followers to benefit from your past wisdom. Many times one of your followers may have seen the same post three or four times during a several month period of time, yet they do not notice it until they are looking to learn more about that subject.
What do you do if you really do not have much content to share yet? Start creating as soon as you can. Trust me, no matter how boring you think your business is (think port-a-potty), there is a way for you to create content your customers are interested in. Two months of a weekly blog, video or email is enough content to start rotating through your social media accounts.
Until next time…
Have a great day,
Susanne
